Senior Data Engineer

Position Description
Are you a technical expert and enthusiastic person on data engineering? We’re looking forward to hear from you!

Your role in our team
• Design, implement and maintain scalable data processing platforms to handle large volumes of data efficiently and effectively.
• Optimize and fine-tune data pipelines for performance and reliability. Ensure that data pipelines are running smoothly and have high performance.
• Writing and optimizing code for data transformation. This could involve cleaning the data, handling missing values, and transforming raw data into a more usable format for analysis or machine learning / modeling tasks.
• Explore, clean, and analyze large and complex datasets to support business objectives.
• Execute quantitative / statistical analyses that translate data into actionable insights.
• Provides analytical and data-driven decision-making support for key projects.
• Creates data collection frameworks for structured and unstructured data.
• Installs, supports, upgrades, and maintains database environments like MongoDB and PostgreSQL.
• Optimize data storage and retrieval processes for efficiency.
• Collaborate with other data engineers, data analysts, and business stakeholders to identify and define use cases, formulate hypotheses, design solution, develop strategy for long term data platform architecture.
• Design, manage and conduct quality control procedures for data sets using data from multiple systems.
• Applies and implements best practices for data auditing, scalability, reliability and application performance.
• Automate the end-to-end release of artifacts across environments
• Build and optimize ETL processes for data extraction, transformation, and loading.

How you join our team
We are expecting to see following expertise and skills:

Technical Skills
• Bachelor or master degree (or equivalent) in computer science, information technology, engineering, mathematics or related discipline.
• Minimum of 5+ year of experience in data management.
• Knowledge of how to build and maintain database systems.
• Deep understanding of the software development cycle.
• Proficiency in languages such as Python, SQL.
• Experience with Databricks, Azure Data Lake, Azure Devops.
• Experience with either Azure Data factory or Airflow.
• Experience with ETL tools.
• Understanding both relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
• Preferable experienced in Scala.
• Familiarity with tools like Tableau, Power BI or other tools.

Soft Skills
• Experience with Scrum/Agile principles.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically, analyze complex problems, and derive actionable insight from data.
• Written and verbal communication skills.
• Fluent in English and preferably also in Dutch.
