System Administrator/Software Engineer

Join our pioneering Quantum & Computer Engineering team, where you'll manage specialised ICT infrastructure and elevate the quality of research software to help shape the future of computing systems and network architectures.

Job description
As an ICT Systems and Software Manager/Engineer, you manage the ICT infrastructure of the Quantum and Computer Engineering (QCE) department of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS). In addition, you will contribute to the development of high-quality research software. This special combination of both assignments greatly appeals to you and is key to providing optimal solutions.

Your main tasks will be:
  • Developing a roadmap for QCE’s ICT infrastructure, and advising the management about the necessary investments in computing systems, tools, and software.
  • Operational ICT management, including monitoring infrastructure use, administrating user access, and responding to incidents.
  • Co-developing research systems and software such as simulation platforms.
  • Support our researchers with code reviews and troubleshooting.
  • Contributing to the quality and efficiency of the software engineering process.
You will be a member of QCE’s Technical Support Team, a small and dynamic team of Software Engineers and Electronics Engineers working closely with roughly 50 researchers and students in QCE.

What is it that we do and offers you hopefully a great place to work? The Quantum and Computer Engineering (QCE) department at TU Delft is on a mission to revolutionise computing through the exploration of emerging devices such as qubits, memristors, spintronics, and graphene. Our interdisciplinary approach spans from the fabrication and operation of qubits to programming models, compilers, and simulation platforms. QCE is also home to a Network Science group that plays a crucial role in advancing our understanding and management of real-world complex systems, such as telecommunication, energy, financial, transport, and social networks.

Challenge. Change. Impact!

Faculty Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) brings together three scientific disciplines. Combined, they reinforce each other and are the driving force behind the technology we all use in our daily lives. Technology such as the electricity grid, which our faculty is helping to make completely sustainable and future-proof. At the same time, we are developing the chips and sensors of the future, whilst also setting the foundations for the software technologies to run on this new generation of equipment – which of course includes AI. Meanwhile we are pushing the limits of applied mathematics, for example mapping out disease processes using single cell data, and using mathematics to simulate gigantic ash plumes after a volcanic eruption. In other words: there is plenty of room at the faculty for ground-breaking research. We educate innovative engineers and have excellent labs and facilities that underline our strong international position. In total, more than 1000 employees and 4,000 students work and study in this innovative environment.
