Functieomschrijving We are looking for an innovative UX designer to join the Scopus team. Scopus is the world’s largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature, including scientific journals, books and conference proceedings, covering research topics across all scientific and technical disciplines. We’re looking for someone with a strong user focus, who wants to help researchers and academic institutions demonstrate their impact and successes, so they can open new doors to collaboration or funding, enabling them to make scientific discoveries.

You will be joining the Scopus UX team and working closely with product managers and a new team of developers based in Amsterdam. The most important thing you do will be to own the user experience for the core team you work with. Your work will be grounded in a deep research-based understanding of our users. This will show itself in workflows and layouts that support user needs, and that are delivered through creative and attractive UI designs. Our ideal candidate is an experienced collaborator and effective communicator who can identify and communicate key insights and translate that into UX solutions that are easy to use. This is a varied role and will suit someone with a wide range of design skills who enjoys everything from working on early concepts to delivering final UI designs.

Your other important responsibilities:
  • Work closely with the product manager, other designers, and the wider group of stakeholders to understand the needs and practices of science researchers in different domains
  • Drive the UCD process of understanding, designing and evaluating, ensuring users are considered at every phase of the product development process.
  • Explore UX solutions in and across products, demonstrating options in well-crafted prototypes, wireframes and diagrams, including deliverables for information architecture and user scenarios.
  • Facilitate internal workshops to uncover and solidify user needs and business requirements.
  • Be able to take a strategic view of our users’ journeys and how to support their workflow across products.
  • Plan and carry out concept- and usability testing using appropriate qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, analyze the outcomes, and translate this into actionable insights, personas, and user journeys for appropriate audiences.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the users' motivations and pain points and contribute to the product roadmap with your research-based knowledge.
  • Participate in Design Thinking sessions with other UX members, Product Owners and Engineers.
  • Participate in project reviews; collaborate with the User Experience group in the development of, promotion of, and compliance to, experience design standards.

Your strengths:
  • Always thinking of the user first and approach design from a user point of view, based on actual data. Extensive experience with planning and executing user testing: concept testing; structured interviews; usability testing; observing users; a/b testing; defining user metrics; analyzing qualitative data.
  • The ability to draw from data analytics to uncover behavioral insights and inform design decisions.
  • Ability to integrate information from a variety of sources to form actionable insights, and skilled at telling a clear and compelling story from research findings and other data.
