Functieomschrijving Enterprise Architect for AkzoNobel

Develop the AkzoNobel IT landscape

We currently seek an Enterprise Architect to develop and maintain an enterprise architecture that will be used by the majority of our 55,000 employees worldwide. The architecture will encompass global business process, information and application architectures in a way that is coherent, integrated and fully aligned with the strategic agenda of AkzoNobel.

This will involve collaborating with business partners, internal and external IT service providers, architects and Information Management (IM) and leadership teams. IM typically has an overall annual investment budget of 50-100 million Euros. The position is based in Arnhem, the Netherlands and the Enterprise Architect will report to the Director CIO Office.

Large-scale responsibilities
This is a wide-ranging role in which the Enterprise Architect will play a significant role in major IT programs and ensure adherence to principles, standards and architectural models and blueprints. This will involve managing the execution of conceptual studies, and the development of implementation scenarios and roadmaps.

The Enterprise Architect will propose solutions and/or services aligned with business requirements and architecture design principles, guide the GASS and Business Unit/Business Area architects and project teams, and develop transition plans including risk management aspects.

Managing internal and external relationships is essential and, at all times, the Enterprise Architect will ensure good communication with the Project Management Office (PMO), using the AkzoNobel PMO project management approach for architecture initiatives. The Enterprise Architect will also maintain effective relationships with relevant industry bodies, contribute to external forums, and stay up-to-date with competitor initiatives and industry trends.

Targets for 2011
Laying the foundation for enterprise architecture development is an AkzoNobel priority. As such, the Enterprise Architect will be expected to perform all key steps in the process in 2011, assembling the Architecture Community and implementing global master data management. The Enterprise Architect will also be expected to participate in the Infrastructure Architecture Forum and major global application projects, like providing guidance to the global ERP consolidation program.

Functie-eisen Applicants for this position must have an academic degree in business management, computer science, computer engineering, or a related field. They should also have approximately 10 years experience in the IT sector, including demonstrable experience of project management.

A broad knowledge and experience of all components of a holistic Enterprise Architecture is essential. This will include knowledge of master data management models and tools, SAP Netweaver and BI suites, and standard architecture frameworks (e.g. TOGAF).

Excellent analytical skills and the ability to translate business needs into Enterprise Architecture requirements are essential for this role. Thus applicants should be aware of best practice solutions (process and information models, applications) for the manufacturing industry and have the ability to rapidly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new trends and technologies. This will involve familiarity with business process modeling and application architecture design (logical and physical), including all relevant tools, technologies, and methodologies.

In order to perform this function, applicants must have the ability to remain neutral toward technology, vendor and product choices, and to be more interested in results than personal preferences. With this will come the capacity to balance the long-term view with the short-term implications of individual decisions, while seeing the whole picture at the same time as focusing on details.
