As a full-stack Lead Programmer, you are part of the Naturalis Application Development team. You will be working primarily with highly motivated colleagues in the multidisciplinary Biocloud team that is part of the ARISE program. This team is responsible for developing the underlying infrastructure of ARISE, which will facilitate automated species recognition and biodiversity monitoring.

This includes the architecture, detailed design and development of data management services, integration services for connecting various data sources to ARISE as well as web interfaces and application programming interfaces (APIs) from which the infrastructure and the data services can be accessed. You will function as the technical lead and main software architect. You are an enthusiastic team player with coordination skills, who likes to work agile and is used to working in a multi-organisational, multi-stakeholder environment.

Of course you will be heavily involved in all the stages of the software development process, starting from the architectural design to the implementation and improvement of developed web services and improvements. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a new research infrastructure that aims to identify all species in the Netherlands and innovate on biodiversity monitoring.

• both frontend and backend technologies, including Javascript frameworks,
• Python, Docker, Java/J2EE, and database and datastore technology
• DevOPS platform usage preferably Gitlab, automated tests and containerization
• open source software development
• high level quality software development and guiding colleagues in using standards, development tools and technology and monitor their usage
• software solution design, making long term choices in issues related to technology and solutions and communicating with multiple stakeholders on these subjects
• developing scalable APIs / microservices (desirable)
• scanning, selection and evaluation technology
• creating high quality technical documentation
• You have at least a BSc in applied sciences or university thinking level (for Dutch applicants, that means minimally HBO/WO).
• Preferably in software engineering or similar technical study.
