Business Liaison BI Reporting for AkzoNobel Functional Chemicals

Drive the success and evolution of a global SAP Business Intelligence architecture

Headquartered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, AkzoNobel is a Global Fortune 500 company and consistently ranked as one of the leaders on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. AkzoNobel’s Functional Chemicals division is a key global supplier of specialty chemicals, with over 4,000 employees. It is organized around eight Business Units, with manufacturing and R&D locations worldwide.

The Functional Chemicals division currently seeks an expert and motivated Business Liaison professional to assume responsibility for the SAP-BW system that supports its global business process. He/She will work within the Information Management department, reporting to the Functional Information Manager Reporting and Communication Channels.

A sophisticated SAP environment
The Functional Chemicals SAP-BW system has an annual budget of approximately €20 million, with an annual project/support budget of approximately €5 million. It has 2,000 users (including 300 IM key users), two central SAP R/3 environments and two central BI reporting environments used worldwide.

A crucial and evolving role
The successful Business Liaison applicant will work both proactively and reactively to fulfill a number of accountabilities and achieve a number of objectives. Core to this is the optimization and improvement of the system, along with the development of a thorough understanding of the relevant business processes.

As such, the Business Liaison will ensure that internal customers receive relevant, timely and accurate information in order to manage customer expectations. Any regional or local differences must be identified and resolved in close cooperation with the relevant business people.

Ongoing system improvement is both essential and expected. This will require the analysis of new ICT-solutions and trends, leading to the identification and prioritizing of improvement opportunities, followed by the coordination and delivery of new projects.

The analysis of operational issues with existing systems and infrastructure, and where appropriate the development of structural solutions, is also key.

The role will involve the coordination of several preferred consultant suppliers, with an average of ten consultants working on projects.

The Business Liaison will represent BU Functional Chemicals in functional platforms and working groups within AkzoNobel. This will include the safeguarding of Corporate/Chemicals/Business Unit IM policies.

Important integration challenge
Over the next two years, the IM department faces the challenge of merging two IM departments into one. This will involve new processes, new responsibilities and new ways of working.

Candidate profile
In terms of formal qualifications, you should hold a Bachelor's/Academic Degree in MIS, Economics or Business Engineering. It is essential that you have extensive experience of working with SAP BW, particularly BI 7.0, along with an understanding of standard SAP modules (FI/CO, SD, MM, Procurement). Experience of other SAP solutions APO, SEM, Business Object is a plus. You should also be familiar with Corporate Intranet Solutions (SharePoint, SAP Enterprise Portal, etc) and have a broad knowledge of management information systems, project planning and management, and computer hardware and software.

The ideal candidate will have experience in introducing projects and managing change with established processes. This will encompass the ability to manage and coordinate multiple initiatives simultaneously, working both independently and as part of a team.

You should also be able to demonstrate the research and analysis skills necessary to create and drive solutions to complex problems, particularly with regard to the information and standards relevant to planning decisions. This will require an ability to identify key stakeholders and build effective working relationships in order to exploit new business opportunities at local, national and global levels.

With all this will come highly developed verbal and international/multicultural communication skills, including negotiation, liaison, interpersonal and relationship skills. Fluent English is essential. Travel is integral to the job.
